20. 1912 - His Siblings

So while F.A.I. was off sailing backwards and forwards across the Atlantic, what was happening with his siblings?

I have no trace of Florence, Arthur and can only assume Ivy was in Ireland! Goodness knows where their father was?

His older brother, Edward, had emigrated from the UK to New South Wales, Australia as had Mabel by this time too.

Edward had married in July 1911 at Newtown, Sydney and Mabel had married in April 1912 at Camberwell, Melbourne.

There is a postcard from Ethel from 1912 which indicates she was staying at the Angel Hotel, City Road, London

(Something amazing has just happened here, as I have looked up the link I have realized I stayed in this pub 80 years after Ethel was there, friends of mine ran this hostelry in the early 1990's. I have been in every room, it is huge, I wonder which was her room ……? Sorry but I am just having one of those ‘WOW’ moments! Another place, another time, another thought…. If I knew then what I know now!!)

In 1912 his sister Maud was noted as being at St.Mary’s Industrial School, West Croydon which was run by the Sister’s of Mercy.
On 26th July 1912 she became a ‘Home Child’ and shipped off as part of the Roman Catholic Emigration programme. She sailed out of Liverpool on the SS Corsican to Quebec, with a final destination of Ottawa. She was 15 years old.
